Facebook took a series of steps in May-June 2020 to limit the spread of the far-right “boogaloo” movement, whose followers believe a second Civil War is coming. The action followed TTP’s April 2020 report about widespread and alarming boogaloo activity on Facebook. In June 2020, after authorities arrested alleged boogaloo members on terrorism and murder charges, Facebook formally banned what it called a violent boogaloo network. TTP’s research has also been cited in a lawsuit filed against Facebook by the family of a federal security officer killed by an alleged boogaloo member.
